Door County occupies a Peninsula (the "thumb" in the outline of Wisconsin) and is blessed with a variety biotopes and microclimata. Consequently there are many opportunities for native landscaping. A number of very active conservation organizations complement and facilitate the work of the WO chapter.
Chapter members work with the Door County Invasive Species Team (DCIST). DCIST is recruiting volunteer town coordinators to track invasive species throughout Door County. For more information contact Bob Bultman .
In the fall of 2006 the chapter adopted and seeded a 4 1/2 acre upland wildflower meadow at the Crossroads Environmental Education Center in Sturgeon Bay, using locally collected seeds. This project will be an object of work and learning for years.
Want a really great website about specific Door County plants, including endangered and threatened species as well as invasive plants? Check out the Freckmann Herbarium at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. It has beautiful color photos and lots of valuable information.
