Unless otherwise specified in our calendar, chapter meetings are held in Grayslake, IL in the Byron Colby Barn at Prairie Crossing. Prairie Crossing is located on the West side of Route 45, south of Ill. 120 and north of Ill. 137.

For hardy pedestrians, Prairie Crossing can also be accessed by train from the Metra North Central Line (to Antioch), and also from the Milwaukee District North Line exiting at the Prairie Crossing/Libertyville station. However, the Barn is located on the far side of Prairie Crossing, away from the station, so allow ample time. If you are arriving after dark and you come across one of our neighborhood coyotes on the trail, just say 'excuse me' as you go by!
Chapter meetings are often, but not always, scheduled on the 2nd Monday of a month at 7:15 P.M. We often schedule meetings and activities outside, which necessitates a different day and time.

Monday May 19, 2008 at 7:00 pm -- RAIN GARDENS
Do you have a low spot in your yard that is often wet and muddy, making mowing or growing plants nearly impossible? If so, try another approach. On Monday, May 19, at 7:00 pm, at the Byron Colby Barn in Prairie Crossing, join David Husemoller for his slide presentation. You will discover how to create a beautiful garden of plants that like to get their feet wet, including native flowers and sedges. Come learn about the wide range of opportunities and advantages of rain gardens and how to go about planning and installing your own. You will learn how to make the most of that seasonal rainfall in a way that provides food and shelter for a variety of wildlife, including birds, dragonflies and frogs!
Following the powerpoint presentation accompanied by handouts, and weather permitting, the group will be invited to tour neighboring examples of rain gardens including David’s own rain garden, which is quite nearby. All are invited.

Saturday August 16, 2008 from 1-2:30 p.m. -- FIELD TRIP
Mr. Jerry Kolar has kindly invited interested Lake-to-Prairie Wild Ones members to tour his extensive native plantings on Saturday, August 16* from 1:00 p.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m. Attendees should wear sturdy shoes and long pants and should bring drinking water and bug spray.
Since parking at the site is limited, we will meet at the Byron Colby Barn in Prairie Crossing and carpool from there. We'll leave the Barn at 12:15 p.m. sharp. In order to arrange for car-pool drivers and allow Mr. Kolar to plan appropriately, this outing requires an RSVP. Please RSVP no later than SUNDAY, AUGUST 11 to Gene Wells at gwells@email.com or 847-421-5480.
There is no fee for members; interested non-members will be able to join at the event.
*Rain date: Sunday, August 17 (same time and meeting place)
