"State of the Lawn"



On the last day of the Wild Ones 2008 Annual Meeting, a Sunday morning, the closing plenary thoughts were delivered by keybnote speaker, and newly nominated Honorary Director Neil Diboll. If you weren't there participating with the enthusiastic audience, in what turned out to be a a heady consciousness-raising meeting, you can read Neil's entire presentation. SFE Grant Applications Due Nov 15th



The Lorrie Otto Seeds for Education (SFE) Grant Program gives small monetary grants to schools, nature centers, or other non-profit educational organizations for the purpose of establishing outdoor learning centers within the United States and Canada.

To be considered for the annual award, non-profit groups such as schools, nature centers, houses of worship, or similar organizations must apply by November 15th. Download an application form at SFE Grant Program

Recipients for the yearly awards will be chosen by the Seeds for Education judges, a volunteer panel of educators and naturalists. The SFE Nursery Partners, a select group of native nurseries and propagators, also donates seeds and plants to successful grant recipients. Grants will be awarded mid-February 2009.

WILD Center WISHLIST - Updated



Many of you have been asking about things we might need at the EcoCenter, so we've put together a list for you.

first aid kit
gardening tools (trowels, shovels, pruners, pruning saw(s), etc)
garden tractor and small trailer
benches for outdoor seating
ladder (both kinds)
trailer for hauling debris with car
shredder or chipper, heavy-duty
rain barrels
conference type table(s)
conference type stackable chairs
floor pads for desk chairs
double bed or twin bed or better yet, one set of bunk beds
dressers (2 ea)
lighting fixtures, energy efficient
In the spring, we will need small maple and oak (bur, white and swamp white oak)trees.
Contact the national office if you have other other items which may be suitable for use at the WILD Center.
